(This is) Air

(This is) Air, 2023.

Nic Brunsdon in collaboration with Eness.

For National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) annual architectural commission 2023.

(This is) Air is a considered take on the form of matter which exists around and within us, we use it everyday and we need it everyday. Air is more than empty space, air is not void, air has substance yet we can’t see air in itself, only in the movements it causes when it interacts with other objects. (This is) Air is an exaggerated visualisation of the movement of the invisible which without we would not exist. The piece inflates and deflates whilst shapeshifting temporarily as a result of the surrounding air within the external environment. At its full inflation the work stands as a fourteen metre sphere overlooking the rear courtyard of the National Gallery of Victoria.
